- Every board has a Special Education Parent Handbook. Locate it on your board's website and get familiar with it. You will be better able to participate in your child's IPRC and yearly IEP process.
- Prepare to meet with the school Principal, to share your vision and goals, and build a relationship. Establishing a good connection with your child's school and personnel is important.
- Get involved in the school community by volunteering for an event or attending a Parent Council meeting. This will help to maintain an ongoing relationship.
- Keep a journal of interactions with the school by saving emails, taking notes at meetings or after phone calls. Work towards creating a regular communication system with the teacher.
