Tools and Resources
Thank you for watching and participating in the P4P webcast presentation, Creative Options for Home . Below is a list of actionable tips, links and resources relevant to the topics discussed. We hope you find this information useful.
3 TIPS TO TAKE ACTION AFTER THE WEBCAST
- Begin exploring with your loved one- Check out new places. Find out the things that they like and things they don’t. Consider that there is more for you to learn about your loved one’s preferences than we know right now because we all change as we grow older.
- Write things down! Make sure to write down the things you know about your loved one and all the ways in which you support them to live their life. This helps us imagine what it might take to involve other supports in their life as they plan to live more independently.
- Think about your and your loved ones' finances. This is a big step, but you can start in small ways by simply noticing and separating out your loved one’s monthly expenses. How much are you already supporting them to live their life? Take some time to review with your loved one that they are connected to all the financial and housing supports they might be eligible for (even if there are waitlists).

If your family member is eligible for ODSP, they will receive a monthly payment that includes both a basic needs amount and a shelter allowance. The shelter allowance amount changes depending on whether your family member rents or owns their home, is in a lodging arrangement or is living with family, so it's always a good idea to double check that they are receiving the correct amount.
