A SUPPORT NETWORK SHEDS LIGHT
ON THE POWER OF PLANNING TOGETHER

One definition of a group is "a number of people who work together or share certain beliefs". Whether a network has two, five or 20 members at any given time, the sharing of insights and experience is what matters most.

One such example is the Deohaeko Support Network.  Established in 1989, this highly regarded family-formed and led network based in Pickering Ontario builds the capacity of families and the surrounding community to support their adult children in leading full and contributing lives. Comprised of almost two dozen members - a core group of seven families, with the recent addition of four brand new families - over time this resilient network has learned to nurture ‘a continuous conversation’ while building sustainable solutions for their loved ones.

The modules below provide a snapshot of the Deohaeko Network, with four members offering up valuable insights around the power of sharing, planning and working together. Highlights include the importance of shared values and consensus, programs versus community-based opportunities, choice and quality of life, the benefits of a network, succession planning and more.
